Summer 2010

Wow! It's nearly the middle of August already...where did my summer go?

Well, it started out with a lot of playing with my mini-BFF a lot!

Miles playing "drive drive" in my car

Mmmm...Smashers from Wallaby's...

Sleepy boy just woke up

Miles thinks ketchup is a food of the gods...

And it tastes even better if you're sitting where you shouldn't be!

Monkey boy. He's watching Finding Nemo on a little TV.

Then I was taking a floral design class through BYU for spring term and made a lot of cool arrangements, which I got to take home.

After applying for 20-30 jobs, I finally found one - I was hired to be an EMT at Raging Waters Utah. I ran the First Aid station and responded to emergencies in the park, like I did at Seven Peaks last year. Raging Waters paid me more PLUS I had to do even less work there! No audits, no in-services, etc!

At the end of spring term...I went home to Livermore for a week! While I was there, my parents and I went to the Rodeo Parade, San Francisco, etc. Lots of fun, and it was great to get out of Utah for a little while!

We went to the de Young Museum, where they have a lot of the masterpieces from the Musee d'Orsay in Paris right now while the Paris museum is undergoing renovations. Me, playing outside before going in.

When I got back to Utah, I started a second new job - working as a Psych Tech at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Let me tell you, they've been keeping me busy! (This week alone, I've worked Saturday, Sunday, Monday, then had Tuesday off, and am working Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, have Saturday off, then Sunday.) I've turned into a creature of the night and love working the night shifts (7pm-7:30am).

Then July came around, and we celebrated my birthday when my parents were out here, so Laura, Dan, Nolan, Miles, Aly, Avery, Zane, Cole, Tate, Mom, Dad, and I all went to lunch at one of my favorite restaurants - Tucanos!

(minus Leslie, Pieter, Jonathan, Shalyn, Scott, Alyson, Fletcher, Conner, Alyse, and Blake)

I said goodbye to my trusty steed, my 1991 Honda Accord...

1991 Honda Accord EX

...and replaced it with a 2003 Toyota Camry, also known as the big comfy couch! My commutes to SLC are much more comfortable now.

2003 Toyota Camry SE

One of Aly's friends had a "toe party", so Aly, Shalyn, Laura, my mom, and I got our toes done (this is taken about 4 weeks after, so they don't look as good as they did).

Yes, I know my toes are ugly, and no, that's not dirt on my feet, they are light tan lines from working at the water park...

I quit working at Raging Waters at the end of July after the way I was treated by the owner of the park, so I had a little more time to play with my mini-BFF!

Helping water the plants, one of Miles' favorite things to do outside

Speedo Sammy!

At Wendy's...he didn't really like the glasses...

Nolan on the slip-n-slide

I've now started moving out of the apartment I've lived in for 2 years because my contract is up. I'm moving to a place that is literally across the street from campus and has cheaper rent, wahooo!

Most of my textbooks...they pretty much filled up my trunk all by themselves...

And finally...I've been waiting for a long time to order one of these...and it arrived in the mail yesterday! A brand-new, high quality stethoscope to use in nursing school! It's a 3M Littmann Cardiology III, if any of you care, haha.

Well, that's about it for now. I can't believe it's about time for school to start again, but I'm excited!

(There, Laura...happy now? Blog updated.)

Drowning!

I'll post something new in a few days...for now, I'm drowning in school work and am not quite sure how I'm going to get through this week.

Pharmacology midterm. N320 test. N330 exam. N320 final. 2 journal entries. Waltz test. Cha Cha test. Pre-assessment. Find 2 articles to present to my clinical group for wednesday about a patient I've had. Discussion questions to answer. Write a "critique of research". Write the intro/methods section of a literature review. Teach in the EMS class Thursday night. Write a paper due next Monday. Case study for class tomorrow.

Yikes.

Damsel in Distress

I got locked INSIDE my apartment this morning.

Long story short, the locking mechanism broke, so Mat had to come and kick the door in for me to rescue me.

Whodathunk?

Last night, while I was running an EMS shift on campus, our computer notification system popped up announcing a call that we were about to get. So me and the two other EMTs on duty pulled our shoes on, slapped ourselves awake (it was a slow night!), and trudged out to the van. We get in the van and begin waiting for our radios to make that lovely dee-doo-dee-doo-dee-doo sound...but it doesn't come. I text my friend, who is working at dispatch, and ask him if we're getting a call, since it had been 3 minutes or so since the computer message had popped up. He texted me back saying "no", and then he got on the radio.

Dispatch: EMS duty crew from dispatch.
Me: Go ahead.
Dispatch: You may have heard the tones go off in the office, you can disregard those.
Me: 10-4.

We head back inside and I hop back onto one of the computers, and ask my friend "dude! What was up with that???" He said that a girl had called in requesting medical assistance, so he had started to write up a medical incident. When he asked her more questions, she began talking about her leaking sink!

Who would have thought that EMTs were not just medical personnel...but plumbers too!

Next time, don't call the University Police when your sink is leaking and ask for medical assistance. Call the after-hours maintenance phone number. :)

Random!

As I was walking through the Wilkinson Student Center today, all dressed up for my dance test on the Foxtrot, some guy who I've never seen in my life before said, (as he was walking past me) "You are very pretty!" I have never had this happen before from someone I didn't know! Crazy! As soon as I turned around to see how this mystery guy was, he was gone, and I didn't see him again. So, if you see a guy walking through the Wilk wearing a fedora...tell him thanks for me. :)

3 weeks in

Three weeks into the semester already. I can't believe it. It doesn't seem like I should be almost a quarter done with it yet, but I am. Crazy.

Self-Defense Class

I'm taking a self-defense class this semester, and while it is a ton of fun, I am really sore from class yesterday. My sides hurt, I've got bruises, and my core muscles are sore. It's been great, and I've learned a lot. I just hope I never have to use it!

1 year down, 1 to go

It's Sean's hump day for his mission! He's only got 1 year left, and then he'll be home! Halfway there!

Argh

Freaking time change. I'm wide awake, and have been for close to an hour already. It's now 5:30am. Growl.

Christmastime, finally!

I'm home!!!

It was so nice to walk outside and not have my lungs freeze to death when inhaling the air that was so frigid at school. I didn't even have to wear a sweatshirt part of the day at all today!

How lovely!

Also, even more lovely is the fact that I am done with finals and my first year of nursing school. Hooray! I can't wait for some time to relax over these next couple of weeks.

Grrrr

I HATE DRAMA!

The end.

A Change of Luck

Usually I have horrible luck in drawings/raffles. Since last Thursday, though, my luck has changed! I won the LoveSac at the Seven Peaks employee party, and then yesterday, I won a $25 gift card to the University Mall! I was entered into this raffle when I joined BYU SNA this semester, and I found out yesterday that I won! There were three $5 Coldstone gift cards, one $25 University Mall gift card, and one $50 University Mall gift card. Pretty sweet, I think. :)

LoveSac!

So I won a LoveSac last night at the Seven Peaks last employee party…and tonight, it tried to eat me. In a battle of epic proportions, I managed to escape. I was watching a movie (What Happens in Vegas) and ended up making a canyon about 3 feet deep in it. So comfortable. It's 5 feet in diameter and sky blue…and I LOVE it!
